Socioeconomic and Humanities Studies Council

The Institute of Socioeconomic Research was establishing in 1970 under the name "Socioeconomic Research Council". From the start the Institute proved its fore- front role in augmenting development efforts by carrying out specialized research in relevant themes. Its efforts have been planned to constitute a cornerstone in Sudanese development. The Institute became part of the National Centre for Research in 1991, and then affiliated to the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2007 the Institute gained independence under the name "The Socioeconomic Commission" which now supervises the implementation of socioeconomic and human studies programs adopted by SAS.

 

Objectives 

 

  • Organization, encouragement and coordination of socioeconomic research work, for achieving socioeconomic development in the Sudan, according to the endorsed national policies.
  • Synthesis of the socioeconomic and humanities research policies, acting as consultant to the state, suggesting the plans of implementation of these policies with the appropriate utilization of the available human and natural resources.
  • Publication of the socioeconomic and humanities research findings, through printed material, circulars, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Exchange of experience and strengthening of institutional relations with the various relevant centers and colleges, inside and outside the Sudan.
